With the Taylor build quality and the hand built attention to detail that the R.Taylor line gives you, it’s hard to go wrong with this Style 1. Built with East Indian Rosewood and Western Red Cedar this Style 1 has a sweet and mellow tone with a wonderful bloom of warmth after the initial attack. Playability, as always with R.Taylor, is sublime – Taylor has set the bench mark for what a properly set up guitar should be. This is a true beauty of a guitar with a rich and sweet voice that will put a smile on your face every time you sit down to play.

This Tacchi Coclea Thucia is the sort of instrument that inspired the concept behind Dream Guitars. It is an instrument that stands far above the many instruments in the world and offers something very unique and special. Tacchi developed the 3 piece top combining Cedar outer boards with Alpine Spruce in the center after hearing a Torres model with softer spruce surrounding stiffer spruce. This design makes for trebles that ‘ring like a bell’ says Tacchi and we can confirm that. Rarely have we heard such clear and present treble strings on a nylon guitar. The purity of note is outstanding. Rodgers Tuners and an Accord Case compliment this worldclass Tacchi guitar.

Here we have a remarkable Collings OM3Bba in Brazilian Rosewood and Red (Adirondack) Spruce. This OM has all the hallmarks of a great pre war style guitar, with excellent power and strong projection. The time tested combo of Brazilian Rosewood and Red Spruce really shines here and it is easy to understand why it is so well regarded. The tone of this guitar is killer, the basses are thunderous in the true sense of the word, and the trebles are crisp and concise, cutting through the mix perfectly. The playabilty is smooth and effortless, just as we expect from Collings. Comes with a Calton Flight Case ($1000 value).

Here we have a Martin 0000-18 in Red Spruce and Mahogany. This guitar sings! The wide lower bout really makes this guitar come to life, it has a full and rich voice that is well balanced and warm. This is a guitar that can be fingerpicked or you can pull out a pick and really lay into it and it holds strong and tight. With the classic Martin playability you can sit down to a long evening of playing and never be fatigued.

The Martin OM-42 is a guitar that normally would need no introduction, but this one has a crisp sweetness about it that demands special attention right from the get go. The classic, time tested combination of Sitka Spruce and East Indian Rosewood yields driving, yet glassy bass and trebles that were just born to carry a melody. And while the 42-style adornments may give it an incredible look, the real value in this one is the voice. It seems to melt into your hands and go exactly where you’re thinking with the least possible effort. Call us soon before it’s gone forever! This is the one you’ll regret not asking about…

Here we have a Schoenberg ES-14C built by Bruce Sexauer. Bruce has been a long standing favorite here at the Dream Guitars shop, he builds some of the most “Alive” guitars we have come across. Legendary fingerpicker Eric Schoenberg has a handfull of the top luthiers build guitars under the Schoenberg name. This Schoenberg is one of the best sounding guitars in this size body that we have played in quite some time. You almost have to tie this down to keep it from vibrating off of your lap – it is that powerful and responsive. Every string has so much complexity and character of tone it is staggering. This is a world class guitar built by one of the great masters of our time.

This T. Haruo guitar is the perfect performing musicians instrument. It will withstand the trials of the road and stage while sounding great the whole time. T. Haruo guitars were made during the early 80s and have been well appreciated, even coveted by their owners over the years. While they were made in a factory-line style, each part of the guitar was still hand made.

Styled much after a Martin dreadnought, this Indian Rosewood and Sitka Spruce guitar has all that familiar dread tone we have all come to love and respect with a lovely mother of pearl motif. This would make a great flatpicking guitar or do just as well as an accompaniment for a vocalist.

Upon picking up and playing the first note on the Huss & Dalton MJC, the first thing you notice is the incredible quality of tone. The bass is round and sonorous, the trebles are full and fat. This is the tone of what should be a century old guitar, but in fact it’s just the kind of tone Huss & Dalton are able to achieve from the get go. The combination of Engelmann Spruce and East Indian Rosewood lends this MJC a classic, understated look that doesn’t distract the the player from the truly awesome sound of this instrument. It is upgraded with Stingray Fret Markers and a Baggs Anthem Pickup System.

This Martin 00-16DBFM is the very first one made in its series! The label reads Instrument #1 and it is certainly a winner in our books. Built of stunning Flamed Bigleaf Maple and shimmering Sitka Spruce, this guitar has punchy, dry bass and mids combined with twinkling, lush highs. The DBFM was made in support of the Women And Music Program and has a slightly narrower nut of 1 11/16″, great for those with shorter fingers or those who like a closer string spacing on the neck.

In 1977, Guild made a D55NT that was much like any other. It was well made, durable, and ready for years of playing. But unlike many of its brethren, this one was destined to end up in the hands of an incredible artist and performer. This guitar belonged to the one and only David Wilcox, a local Ashevillian and a supreme songwriter. In his hands, this guitar shone, but eventually the two parted ways and now the Guild has made its way back to our shop in the course of its search for a new home. Recently set up and in fine playing shape, you’ll be hard pressed to find a guitar with a better story to it than this one. The classic pairing of Indian Rosewood and Sitka Spruce will have you singing right along with it. It would make the perfect stage guitar or even collector piece, depending on what you are looking to accomplish. Come check it out and see what you think!

When the likes of legendary fingerstylist Laurence Juber and Martin Guitars put their heads together, you know an incredible instrument will be born as a result. They chose to go with the winning combination of Madagascar Rosewood and Adirondack (Red) Spruce, and we’re glad they did! This is a guitar that can handle Blues, Celtic and more, and has the power and snap to keep up with even the big bad jumbos and dreadnoughts. The smooth venetian cutaway provides easy playing all the way to the edge of the fingerboard. Once you start playing this one you just won’t want to stop!

This Lowden F35 has clarity in spades. The trebles shimmer and cut through a dense mix well, making it a great guitar for acoustic lead. The Brazilian Rosewood Lowden used on this F35 is an interesting set with variation in color and landscape style figure, paired with a creamy Alpine Spruce top. Playability is effortless from action to string spacing, making this a great go to guitar for lounging around on the couch or going out on the stage.

Here we have the flagship insturment of the Martin Guitar Co. The 45 style OM is a legend in the guitar world, it is one of Martins most heavily appointed guitars, with some of the finest woods available. This OM 45 is built in East Indian Rosewood and Red (Adirondack) Spruce. Tonally, it guitar falls right where you’d like it to be – full voiced, with articulate trebles and big, warm bass. Let the good times roll and play your heart out on this one. It’s sure to sing right along with you.

This Martin OM-28 Sunburst Custom is a heavy hitter in both tone and beauty. Lets start with the woods. Built from a beautiful, light chocolate set of Brazilian Rosewood and first class Red Spruce top, this OM is just jaw dropping to look at with those classic martin looks. On to the tone. Play this guitar once and you will understand why the Martin guitar is so well regarded. The voice is open and responsive – this guitar sounds like a century old instrument. The bass is round and warm while the trebles shimmer with a quick attack. If you are playing bluegrass or fingerpicking and you want that fabled Martin sound, there is no better guitar than this.

Here we have a Martin OM-42 Quilted Maple 2 number 6 of 30. This is the first of its kind that we have seen from Martin, the wood choice truly is unique and stunning. The Quilted Maple used on this guitar is nothing short of fantastic, and Martin and co. took it one step further by staining the wood, bringing forth a truly three dimensional effect. The maple is paired with a tight grained Italian Spruce top. This OM took us all by surprise in the tone department, it is crystal clear and responsive, favoring the fundamental with only a hint of warm overtones. This guitar is a rare collectors piece that not only looks stunning but sounds just the same.

It is hard to beat a Martin OM-18 when it comes to an all around kind of guitar. If you want to play blues and rag or even bluegrass, the OM-18 is the guitar to do it on. With its Red Spruce top and Mahogany back and sides this OM has all the power and bark you could want. Dig in to it or play it sweet, you will get exactly what you need out of it every time. Martin has perfected the sunburst, and it stands out here on this guitar. It has the vintage vibe and tone with modern playabiltiy, what more could you want?

Here we have an all around great 1966 Martin D-21 in Sitka Spruce and Brazilian Rosewood. It is hard to beat a good Martin dread for tone, and this one has it, big full and open without being overpoweringly bass heavy. Playability is as good as new on this dread, Ken Jones did a neck set and full refret, nut and saddle, bringing this beauty back in to its hay day.

John Buscarino’s Cabaret model is one of the most versatile crossover models we have ever come across. It is well suited to jazz, swing, and classical, all of which sound at home on this custom Cabaret, making it a solid all around guitar. John built this Cabaret from solid East Indian Rosewood and Engelman Spruce, which make for a powerful, yet sweet sounding guitar. The tree of life was particularly well executed here with multiple types of shell and reconstituted stone. This guitar is a rare beauty just looking for someone to give it a great home.

This Lowden S-32 has an even and level voice that is fun for a whole host of playing styles. Made with choice Indian Rosewood and lovely variegated Sitka Spruce, the bass and mids have excellent pop for funky, bluesy picking and the trebles are dry and crisp, great for articulate fingerstyle pieces. Here we have a Lowden S-25 in Red Cedar and East Indian Rosewood. This is a guitar perfectly suited to fingerpicking and folk music. The tone is bright and smooth with and has an underlying woodiness that ties the tonal palette together. The neck profile and string spacing feel natural in the hand, while string spacing at the saddle feels perfect for fingerstyle playing.

John Bogdanovich is one of the greatest Classical guitar builders on the scene right now. His guitars are uniformly spectacular, everything from build quality to tone is at the absolute peak of the craft. This 2008 Concert Classical is built from a beautiful set of Brazilian Rosewood and a perfect, even grained German Spruce top. John’s style is one of extreme refinement. From the stunning burl and handmade herringbone rosette to the tasteful colors used in the purflings. This is a guitar that commands attention when you see it. Tonally this classical has everything a concert level performer could want: clear and powerful trebles, present mids and full, boisterous basses, all with incredible balance and pianistic note separation. This is as good as it gets, a builder like John should be held to the same level as Torres and Hauser.

There is nothing quite comparable to a beautiful, hand crafted guitar. Something about the way the Cocobolo Rosewood and Red Cedar on this Ryan Nightingale Grand Soloist pair up makes for an instrument with an effortless allure. The smooth, custom satin finish over Kevin’s signature “Ryan Style” arm bevel give it a sweet, natural and seductive feel. The voice is lyrical, dancing along with ease and grace, balance and distinction. With a cutaway to make reaching even the highest passages a breeze, this is one that you’ll always want to keep central to your playing. It inspires.

Here we have an Applegate Baritone in Madagascar Rosewood and European Spruce. Brian has achieved a clarity of voice on this baritone that is truly inspiring. Often enough Baritones can have a muddy tone with no real distinction between strings, that is not the case here. From the gigantic gut rumbling bass strings to the present and clear trebles this baritone has the articulation and distinction to make any song you play thunder and shimmer. One of the great benefits of owning a Baritone is the sense of newness and inspiration you get in your playing, with this Applegate you are sure to have heaps of new ideas and songs flowing from your fingertips.

Ken Jones of Mountain Song Guitars is an old friend, just like this Baritone. This beauty was originally commissioned in 2014 for our own Paul Heumiller with Ken, and those two embarked on a collaboration that’s kept Paul bari happy for a number of years. Padauk back and sides offer crisp, clear projection and pair with Adirondack Spruce on top for power, power, power. A multiscale setup from 28 1/2” to 27 1/4” adds extra definition and pop to the bass register, and keeps those trebles sugar sweet on the tongue. The neck is carved with an asymmetrical profile that better matches a player’s hand geometry, and the body is further outfitted with twin arm and rib bevels for creature comfort—a wonderful thing on a big boy like this powerhouse Baritone with over 16” across the lower bout. That said, it weighs in at a trim 5lbs, so won’t wear you out anytime soon. Paul later had a James May Ultra Tonic pickup system installed, which sounds, frankly, absurdly good.
Here’s a little more from Paul: “This guitar was a wonderful collaboration between Ken Jones and myself. I selected my favorite specs from the many baritones we’ve sold over the years and incorporated them all into this guitar. Ken really nailed it tonally, ergonomically, and aethestically. I played this guitar every day and it inspired so many songs. For me that’s the sign of a great guitar: inspiration to play.”
