For this bespoke client commission, Don Musser pulls out all the stops. The second in a pair of Gram Parsons-inspired flattops, this Jumbo features extensive pearl work along the fingerboard and headstock with a nod to Parsons’ “Return Of The Grievous Angel,” Engelmann Spruce on top, and a chocolate-dark set of Brazilian Rosewood for the back and sides. The voice has great depth and dynamic range, suitable for both picks and fingertips–even played softly, this Musser Jumbo has a profoundly rich and articulate voice. A complete and balanced meal. This 2019 Greenfield G2 is appetizer, main course, dessert, and half the bar to boot. Such a sweet, rich, expressive creature! Mike finished this one in 2019, so it’s close to new and still looking the part. 80-year-old Cocobolo Rosewood back and sides are paired with an Alpine Moonspruce top, plus Greenfield’s DADGAD multiscale setup (26.25-25.5”); upgraded silver Rodgers tuners; combo arm bevel and palm away bevel. Gold EVO frets ensure many more moons of music before you’ll need to worry about a fret dress, and with Mike’s surgically precise fit/finish and design this G2 performs like a well-oiled machine. Wrap this beauty up in a custom splatter paint jobbed Main Stage flight case, and you’ve got an heirloom creation for a lifetime’s inspiration.

Racecar curves, glassy setup, and butter-rich depths—the Beauregard MB is in a class of its own. Flame Maple body with Spruce top, Armstrong humbucker, and tasty Koa appointments throughout. The über curvy sides make for an incredibly comfortable playing experience, all while looking very attractive. A carved bridge and tailpiece complete the portrait. This gorgeous model MB comes to us from 2008, and is oh so ready for more action.

What could be better than working with a great client and one of our favorite builders for a custom project? This Klein & Kauffman 426 was the result of one such collaboration, and it couldn’t have turned out better. We decided on a dramatically figured Brazilian Rosewood body with European Spruce on top, plus a multiscale setup to allow for a range of altered tunings. The result is the trademark Klein bass response, plus punchy mids and a clean top end with some sweet overtones. Riches abound! Additionally, Steve dressed this up a soundport, custom Hoffee case and cover, and we even got Larry Robinson to inlay a vibrant, iridescent lotus at the headstock. Along the fretboard are correspondingly colorful Abalone block position markers.

The modern player needs a modern instrument to keep up with. Enter: the Bortolozzo Nylon Crossover. This featherweight crossover has the easy string feel and warmth of a classical guitar, but in a contemporary crossover package that offers ergonomic features for an even easier playing experience, as well as a modern aesthetic that sets it apart from the crowd. Marco offers us a very cool bevel cutaway here, flawlessly executed, plus radiused fretboard and a 1 3/4” nut that will feel very familiar for steel string players. Ditto for the slender C profile neck. Finish throughout is a matte oil finish that truly feels like velvet in hand, and no doubt contributes to the overall light build weight—this Bortolozzo Crossover weighs in around 2.5lbs! Flamed Maple back and sides plus a Torrefied Alpine Spruce top, here making for a quick and lively string energy paired with a smooth and colorful bass response.
Ready to strap into a powerhouse nylon crossover that’s only going to get better with age? Sign on with this Bortolozzo and you won’t regret it.

Glass action beautiful. Tom Doerr had a delicate hand for crafting resonant, responsive modern flattops; just look at the fit and finish on this 2018 Trinity Select for proof of that. Flawless, with an exquisite attention to detail, executed in a high gloss finish to really make this one pop. Amazon Rosewood back and sides pair up with Swiss Moonspruce on top, plus an arm bevel and florentine cutaway for creature comforts. A 25-26” multiscale fretboard makes for easy playability and a wide dynamic range, both in standard as well as altered tunings. The voice is equal parts crisp and strong, especially for a smaller bodied instrument. Part of that is of course Tom’s skill in voicing the top to be extra responsive, and the other part being that multiscale setup for a bit more punch in the bass register. All in all, this 2018 Doerr Trinity Select is a shining example of Tom’s legacy to the world of lutherie and fingerstyle guitars.

Brand new and available, for now–our latest R.2 from Tyler Robbins is the modern guitarist’s sweet dream come true. The R.2 is a slender build in the 00 range, but thanks to Tyler’s abilities it retains a full and complex voice and dynamic range. If you’re looking for a lot of sound with petite proportions, you’ve found it. Ziricote body with German Spruce top, 12 fret body join plus cutaway and a 25.5″ scale setup; EVO frets; Gotoh 510 mini tuners. Tyler leaned into a geometric exploration for the aesthetic package, including a soundhole that conforms to the angles of the rosette, as well as a green and bronze motif there and at the headstock. Add an arm bevel to the mix for maximum player comfort–executed with a Ryan-style taper at the bottom and squared off at the top.

Just about everything we look for in a modern flattop guitar is here in spades. Jason Kostal has been enriching the lutherie scene for years with his powerful, yet balanced, builds. Precisely like this 2013 Modified Dreadnought—dressed to the nines with dramatic Brazilian Rosewood back and sides, German Spruce on top, and upgraded with a stained glass rosette, BRW headplate, cutaway, and Manzer-style body wedge. The combination of which makes for an effortless playing experience married with a wide dynamic range, powerful projection, and sweet balance across the strings. Just about perfect for just about every application, this Kostal MD is an obvious choice for fingerstyle play, but with the larger body it also holds up fantastically for strumming and flatpicking. All wrapped up in a Hoffee case for maximum protection, and rigged out with K&K Pure Mini pickup.

The WS is a wonderfully versatile guitar. Combining the best qualities of large and small bodied guitars, it is ideally suited for a variety of musical situations. A large, deep chamber gives the WS strong projection and rich bass. The narrow waist and tight upper bout allow for a ringing treble, good balance and clear definition of individual notes. Overall, the WS is impeccably balanced. The shapely curves and light weight make the WS a comfortable guitar to cradle or stand with. The extra deep cutaway encourages playing up the fretboard.

The Concert Series is all about Warm Tone. These are the lightest soundboards built by RainSong using unidirectional carbon. Unidirectional carbon mimics the tight grain of a fine spruce soundboard. Thus, it is not surprising that this line produces a warmer tone.

The RainSong Orchestra Model is the most refined of all RainSong shapes. It is our most comfortable and intimate guitar, with an immediacy of presence that makes it a favorite with the coffee house crowd. The treble, already a breathtaking attribute of RainSongs, and the carbon sound are simply sublime in this little guitar. A crystal bell clarity, balance, superb separation of individual notes, and an expansive dynamic range make the OM one of our most individually expressive guitars. Because of Projection Tuned Layering™, the OM is capable of strong projection. It won’t rattle windows like the Jumbo or the Dreadnought, but the OM, when driven, packs a lot of power and punch for a small bodied guitar

Few names are so well recognized in popular music as David Gilmour of Pink Floyd fame. In 2021, Martin collaborated with Mr. Gilmour for an exclusive Signature Edition run of 250 guitars. These were soon all snatched up, but we’ve managed to land one, no. 27, here in the shop.
The David Gilmour signature models are the first D-35s ever made with neck, back and sides of Sinker Mahogany, chosen by David for its warm, rich tones and exquisitely beautiful grain. VTS Adirondack Spruce on top to be broken in and wide awake right out of the gate. A bespoke neck shape & fingerboard pattern were crafted to David’s specification for this guitar, while a special headstamp is featured on the reverse of the headstock. Every label was hand-signed by David; look into the soundhole and you’ll find his very hand just below “#27.” Additionally, we have included a customized Elliott capo engraved with the words, “Gilmour D-35,” to make this most exclusive Martin just a little bit more rare.
Ready for the crown jewel of your collection? The 2021 D-35 David Gilmour awaits.

A piece of 1932 that’s alive and well. Here we’ve landed a Martin OM-28 in strong playing shape with some repairs over the years, plus an incredibly wide open, expressive voice. You just can’t get this with a torrefication rig! The Adirondack Spruce top has opened up completely in the past 90 years; the trebles particularly thick, present, and articulate. Brazilian Rosewood back and sides have had some cracks repaired, but are in great playing shape. It’s incredible to see such “boring” Brazilian Rosewood, the grain is arrow straight. Bar frets along the fingerboard have been dressed by our own repair staff, and they feel excellent under your fingertips. V neck has been played in over the years and feels like your favorite old pair of jeans.

Adirondack Spruce on top with Mahogany back and sides, 12 fret neck join and a 25 inch scale makes for easy playability; deluxe appointments include fleur-de-lis position markers and an engraved Froggy Bottom Abalone headstock logo. Curly Maple bindings plus a slotted headstock and nickel Waverly tuners complete the portrait of a powerhouse model H from Froggy Bottom. Get this livewire before it gets gone!

If you need a guitar that stand head and shoulders out from the crowd, this Ergo Noir from Charles Fox is going to be right up your alley. Charles’ Ergo design manages to make a large guitar feel and play like a much smaller instrument–without sacrificing an ounce of volume and tone. The voice on this Ergo Noir stands out to us here at Dream Guitars, and that takes a lot. There’s a quick and lively quality that’s immediately engrossing, with just a touch of added sweetness in the mids to warm it up and fill it out. The body is engineered with a wedge, elevated fingerboard, cutaway, and soundport to enhance the experience of effortless playability, and features an Alpine Spruce top (painted black) and wildly figured Brazilian Rosewood back and sides plus red purflings throughout. A Flamed Mahogany neck terminating at Charles’ bespoke headstock shape, and an access panel at the tail, tie it all together. Ready for a modern addition to your collection? Looking for a flattop that not only plays great, but has a little something extra in the voice that’s unlike the others? This 2016 Charles Fox Ergo Noir is the ticket.

Pure velvet. A Kevin Ryan is always glassy, but this 2019 Nightingale Soloist takes that to a new level with its combination of Sinker Redwood and Brazilian Rosewood. Very rich and expressive, with an added blooming quality in the bass response that’s particularly sweet to experience. Kevin’s 25.7″ scale keeps the voice crisp and defined as well, and enables you to tune down into DADGAD or beyond without loss of projection and definition. Being one of his rare Signature Series guitars, this Nightingale is dressed for the red carpet with art deco appointments, an arm bevel & acoustic flutes, titanium bridge pins, and silk-smooth setup.

Bill Tippin has been one of our favorite builders for just about as long as we’ve been in business. Why? A gorgeous aesthetic married with expressive, articulate voices that draw player and listener in every time. This 2017 Forte model is one to lose track of time with. Handles flatpicking with aplomb, but also sensitive enough for a light fingerstyle touch; at home in altered tunings without losing oomph and string energy. It does it all, and it does so exceedingly well. Then there are the upgrades: Brazilian Rosewood and Adirondack Spruce, African Blackwood bindings and bridge plus rosette, arm bevel, subtle soundport. The fretboard is adorned with a spray of stone and pearl inlays, pairing up with delicate, slender pearl purflings at the body and headstock.
Bill Tippin takes the cake and brings an extra dose of buttercream frosting with this 2017 Forte.

A stunning collaboration between father-and-son duo Dale & Tyler Unger and hyperrealist painter Peter Maier. The Versailles is based on the Ungers’ Elite model, here paired with Maier’s inspiration from Wagner dance music in a panoply of vibrant, metallic hues. Here’s a snapshot of Maier’s process: https://vimeo.com/523568115. The result is an archtop quite unlike any other. The 14.5” lower bout and slim build weight make for an easy playing experience; plus a Lollar P90 with tortoise cover for a lively amplified tone that threads the needle between rich and punchy.
The American Archtop Versailles—dressed in Flamed Maple and European Spruce—is ready to be the centerpiece of your collection.

The result of masters from two fields in collaboration: luthiers Dale & Tyler Unger and hyperrealist painter Peter Maier. The Ram is a particular brand of unique—17 inch archtop whose Maple back is adorned with a hyper realistic ram from Maier. On top, a gold motif continues along the center seam and with the trapeze tailpiece and hardware, plus gold Gotoh mini tuners. The headstock boasts a tightly figured Koa headplate, and from there you’ll find a series of vibrant Abalone position markers along the fretboard. Here’s a snapshot of Maier’s process: https://youtu.be/5AN01qUDxbw. On the electronics front, Unger outfitted the Ram with a Kent Armstrong floating humbucker plus volume and tone at the pickguard (itself featuring a single band of gold that arcs diagonally across). Top is AAAA European Spruce, paired with AAAA European Maple for the back and sides. Flame Maple neck, set off with the Ebony fingerboard, completes the portrait. Here’s Maier: “The Ram guitar was inspired by my time at White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico, where skulls of animals were dominant in many business locations—however I worked gold leaf onto the horns with an engine turned finish to give it more of a costly & valued appearance.”

Brand new! This is what happens when a master archtop builder continues to push the envelope: Tad Brown CC Blue. Red Spruce top, Red Maple body, plus a CC Pickups ES250 Charlie Christian pickup and cobalt array, pale Maple bindings with an extra bevelled edge (and a subtle arm bevel introduced into the bindings and top itself at the lower bout); Rosewood appointments throughout; a slim build weight and 1 3/4” nut. The “blue” model designation refers to Tad’s use of lapis lazuli in the finish, resulting in a three-dimensional effect that pulls extra depth out of the Flame Maple body and Adirondack Spruce top.

This time around, Tad spec’d this CC Blue with a tighter lower bout, putting this one at 15 1/2″ across. This makes for an even more easy-playing experience. The neck profile Tad describes as a “slim sportscar neck,” and this one practically drives itself.

The riches run deep in this one. The only way to make Kevin Ryan’s Cathedral Grand model even better is to add time, which this lovely number from 2002 has in spades. Two decades of music have opened up the Italian Spruce top and Madagascar Rosewood body for a voice that’s butter smooth and round, with great note separation and dynamic range. In a word, expansive. The setup is silk-smooth with a 25.7″ scale and 1.75″ nut, arm bevel, and florentine cutaway. All wrapped up in a custom Calton case, this Ryan Cathedral Grand is ready for another 20 years.

Quick and lively, but with an added element of darkness and bass articulation, this 1976 Flamenca Blanca from Robert Ruck offers a rich playing experience that works for both solo and accompaniment work. Cypress back and sides with Spruce, top, 657mm scale, and Ruck finished the body with catalyzed urethane, electing to save French Polish for the top to promote maximum resonance. Original Ebony friction pegs have been freshly oiled and work fantasticall, contributing to the overlal featherweight construction–this Ruck Flamenco weighs under three pounds.

Here’s a chance to land a gorgeous interpretation of the classic Gibson L5, this time from Jackson Cunningham of Virginia. Red Maple back and sides with Red Spruce on top, Flame Maple neck with gold hardware and a spirit varnish sunburst finish. The neck profile is a little extra crazy, which feels very comfortable and easy in our hands, and the setup is effortless to boot.
