So begins the next epoch of Jordan McConnell’s career in lutherie. With this 15 Inch Model, #071, Jordan will no longer be accepting orders from clients. Instead, he will be exclusively building instruments according to his own aesthetics and voice. We are so grateful to have been a part of his process for so many years, and it is an immense honor for us to continue to offer these new, completely Jordan creations, to you. As you’ll see, #071 is a fitting start. Here’s Jordan:
“This is the first guitar to have been entirely built in my new studio, so I wanted it to be special. The top is master grade Swiss Moonspruce cut in 2004, and the back and sides are chosen from some of the first sets of Brazilian Rosewood I acquired back in 2002. The Curly Spanish Cedar neck was from the very first order I placed with A&M Wood Supply in 1999, as is the Ebony fretboard. By choosing some of the oldest wood in my collection, I wanted to reach back to the beginning of my career while at the same time showcasing the direction my building has been moving in the last few years, both aesthetically and sonically.
With the smaller body and 12-fret neck join on this guitar, I chose to revisit the influence that the classical builders have had on my instruments and really dive into the intimacy and emotion that is inherent in this configuration, while still building in enough power and volume to dig in and have some fun.”
