Add to Compare1999 Gibson SG Les Paul Custom Mahogany, Inverness Green 3 ’57 Humbuckers
Here we have a lovely custom shop Les Paul SG Custom in Inverness Green with 3 ’57 Humbuckers. From Epinions.com: The current incarnation of the Les Paul SG Custom Reissue differs from the original in several important ways. One of the most notable is that the guitar upon which it is based had a slightly larger body, and the manner in which the neck of the Les Paul Custom SG Reissue is joined to the body is more sturdy. Many of the original 1961’s had to have their neck joint repaired over the years for this reason. The neck on the original also had a tendency to whip a bit with hard playing, because of the manner in which it joined the body, and this whipping tendency was also accentuated by the thinness of the neck. Of course, this added to problems in keeping the guitar in tune. These problems have been eliminated in the Les Paul Custom SG Reissue, and the neck is somewhat slightly thicker, has a stronger truss rod, the heel joint where the neck joins the body is more substantial, the neck has a longer tenon. Thus, the Les Paul Custom SG Reissue does not have a tendency to whip or bend like the original, and thus holds its tune significantly better than the original, and it is not prone to the neck joint cracks or breaks that plagued the original.

Add to Compare1948-1950 Gibson J-50 Mahogany/Spruce
This was the “natural” version of the popular Gibson J-45. In 1948 they switched from the Gibson script logo to the post-war gold block logo featured on this guitar. In 1950, they started using the upper belly bridge, so this is most likely either a 1948 or 1949 but could be an early 1950 as well. Whatever the year this is a GREAT ONE. Killer tone, that is bold and clear and the setup is excellent. This is one of the best playing Gibsons from this era you’ll find.

Add to Compare1956 Gibson SJ Southern Jumbo Mahogany/Spruce
We are fortunate to have found one of the 586 SJs made by Gibson in the year 1956. This one comes to us from a local fellow who inherited it from a sickly boy he befriended and taught guitar back in the 1950s. It has primarily been stored detuned for years, brought out from time to time when visitors would use it to play a few tunes. It appears to be all-original with no repairs other than our reseating the bridge. It even has the original chipboard case in perfect condition. The one has that amazing vintage Gibson tone, big warm and woody bass and distinctive chime that only a mahogany Gibson seems to produce. This is the real deal found locally, what a treat.

The Gibson Advanced Jumbo is a classic design among dreadnoughts. This one has been owned by an Asheville area singer-songwriter, Valorie Miller, who played it a lot so it’s got a great broken-in voice that’s alive. The sunburst is gorgeous and while it has a few nicks and dings, it’s also got a lot of mojo and guts. We really like the voice and we’re sure you will also.

The home of Gibson electric guitars today is “Gibson USA,” built in 1974 in Nashville specifically for the production of Gibson’s Les Paul guitars. Although the entire guitar industry went through a slump in the late ’70s, the spirit of innovation remained strong at Gibson. In response to a growing demand for vintage stylings, Gibson tapped its rich history and reissued the dot-neck version of the ES-335 in 1981 and the flametop sunburst Les Paul in 1982. At the same time, two legendary guitarists joined Gibson- B.B. King in 1980 with the Lucille model and Chet Atkins in 1982 with his new concept of a solidbody acoustic guitar.Gibson world headquarters moved to Nashville in 1984 with the closing of the Kalamazoo plant. The financially troubled company was rescued in January 1986 by Henry Juszkiewicz and David Berryman, and the new owners quickly restored Gibson’s reputation for quality as well as its profitability.Today’s Gibson electric guitars represent the history as well as the future of the electric guitar. The models whose designs have become classics-the ES-175, ES-335, Flying V, Explorer, Firebird, SGs and Les Pauls-are a testament to Gibson’s wide appeal, spanning more than four decades of music styles. Gibson’s close relationship with musicians is manifest in endorsement models from King, Atkins and jazz greats Howard Roberts and Herb Ellis, plus new Les Pauls made to the personal specifications of rock stars Jimmy Page and Joe Perry. In 1994, Gibson’s Centennial year, the new Nighthawk model won an industry award for design, setting the stage for a second hundred years of Gibson quality and innovation.
