Brand New Greenfield Concert Classical C1, Indian Rosewood/Moonspruce
Brand new from the master luthier Michael Greenfield, this Classical C1 is yet another example of why we love Greenfield guitars here at the shop. Powerful, dynamic, and modern—this isn’t your grandfather’s concert classical.
With a moon-harvested Alpine Spruce top and laminated Indian Rosewood back and sides, this guitar showcases exceptional craftsmanship. The design includes an elevated armrest, elevated fingerboard with a negative neck angle, and the pièce de résistance: an adjustable neck accessed through the top of the fingerboard. Additional details include a 12-hole Gilbert-style bridge, custom handmade Rodgers tuners, a natural gloss finish on the back and sides, and French Polish on the neck and top. Take a look, have a listen, and enjoy this modern masterpiece of a guitar.

This 2012 Michael Greenfield G.1 offers a rare opportunity to own a Brazilian Rosewood Greenfield without the usual premium price tag. Paired with an Adirondack Spruce top, this guitar delivers the lush, complex overtones and dynamic range that Greenfield guitars are known for.
It shows plenty of honest play wear, but its structural integrity is sound. Notably, it is equipped with a K&K Trinity pickup for natural, studio-quality amplification. It also has an arm bevel, which has been professionally repaired, and a pinned bridge — a rarity in Greenfield’s builds. Equipped with Waverly tuners, this is a player’s dream with collector-worthy tonewoods and craftsmanship.

If Michael Greenfield has ever built a dud, we haven’t seen it. Quite the opposite, in fact. We haven’t seen a Greenfield that didn’t knock us out right out the gate. Take this 2018 G1 as a great example. Effortless playability, a voice with sweetness and riches and a slight midrange bump that makes for an engrossing, complete sound–the best tonewoods you’re like to find on a modern build–ergonomic features to maximize player comfort. This G1 does it all. The back and sides are Mike’s reserve grade, 80-year-old Cocobolo, here paired with an Adirondack Spruce top, Honduran Mahogany neck, and a Laskin-inspired arm bevel. Additional appointments include a heel “swoosh” carve, florentine cutaway, clear pickguard, and custom splatter-style Calton flight case.

Greenfields are a category all their own. Michael has such a consistent touch with all his instruments; each one has great string-to-string balance, mixes up well, with equal richness and clarity to individual notes. And in 2011 the master outdid himself yet again with this G1. Upgraded with heirloom grade Brazilian Rosewood that’s over 200 years old, plus a 30-year-old German Moonspruce top–what more could a modern musician ask for? Why not a Laskin-style arm bevel and florentine cutaway, as well as a heel swoosh carved heel for lefthand comfort. The Brazilian Rosewood is so unique on this G1, it was salvaged from a center beam in Brazil and is midnight-dark with black-red warmth right in the center. Coincidentally, the voice has that in spades too with a rich, rich, rich midrange to pair up glass trebles and articulate bass.
This is a lifetime kind of instrument: the Greenfield G1.

This is the fourth G.2 that Mike built in collaboration with Guitar Gal for Robin’s Special Reserve series–pulling out the stops for a showstopper piece. The G.2 is Mike’s Grand Auditorium model with its 16″ lower bout and heaps of power, here boasting a combination of 200-year-old Brazilian Rosewood with a 30-year-old Alpine Moonspruce top. To say this guitar is rib-rattling feels like an understatement. It’s had a few years to break in and wake up, which it’s done handsomely, and is ready for more. Very well-cared for to boot, this Greenfield looks and feels as good as it sounds, and that’s a high bar.

Michael Greenfield’s guitars have been the choice for the likes of Andy McKee, Adam Miller, Pierre Bensusan, Brooke Miller, Charlie Hunter and Paul Stanley to name a few. This 2007 G4 clearly shows why these artists chose Greenfield. Power, clarity and sonority are all aplenty within this Koa and Sitka powerhouse. Aside from having gorgeously figured Koa, this instrument is sporting some rather delightful creature comforts i.e beveled armrest, and a soundport. If you’re looking for an instrument that will provide unlimited amounts of inspiration and prove to be a sound investment, this is your axe! What more can we say?

While playing music professionally in the 1970s, I began setting up and repairing electric guitars. By the 1990s, this evolved into a career repairing and restoring vintage and antique guitars. Having had the opportunity to examine so many of those iconic pre-war and early 20th century instruments was an invaluable education. I was able to examine, measure, play and HEAR those wonderful guitars!! It also pointed out the issues that typically need service down the road, which I attempt to engineer out of my own instruments. Maintaining the guitars of so many musicians nurtured my understanding of how to address the needs of players with varied repertoire, styles and musical needs. I bring all of this to my craft and my current work. My goal is that you are not just satisfied but THRILLED with your new guitar.
