Chris Jenkins and his son Jeremy Jenkins walk to the beat of a different drummer and that’s a good thing. They create unique, funky and fun instruments with tons of vibe and style. This Saddle Pal parlor guitar is a great example. Christina Lavin and Todd Hallawell regularly use theirs and as Todd says “it must have a supercharger in it” because they have such a surprisingly strong voice for a small guitar. This particular Saddle Pal raises the bar with its Madagascar Rosewood and Redwood body, Maple neck and trim and incredible details including the elaborate headplate and abalone border on the fingerboard and top. The top itself is gorgeous Redwood with a Quilted Maple shoulder where the soundports reside, in addition there are two ports on the driver’s side for a full voice to the player. The Jenkins Saddle Pal also makes a great travel guitar as it’s only 38.5″ in length and features an adjustable action that can be modified under tension. Never be without a great guitar again!

Chris Jenkins creates powerful small body guitars. He does it with his own approach to bracing and construction. Inside and out a Jenkins Guitar is unique and different with a voice that commands attention. They include an adjustable neck joint so action can be easily set to the players preferences. Players like fingerstyle champion Todd Hallawell choose to play Jenkins for their versatile, power and clarity. This 000 Chameleon is crafted from Myrtlewood and rare ‘Lucky 12’ Bearclaw Spruce. This spruce is from a log that was salvaged from a floating home for Alaskan loggers decades ago. It is premium Sitka Spruce with all the tonal benefits of having been submerged, something that some theorize made Stradavarius Violins so special. This is a very unique and special guitar.

Chris Jenkins started making guitars in 1996 when his son wanted a bass guitar. “I’m a real conventional, conservative guy. I don’t think I understood the true nature of art until I started making guitars. I’m not saying they’re perfect, but art is about having a passion. It fills a void. It’s such a rewarding thing hearing people create music with them and hear them create music for others’ enjoyment.” All his guitars have his logo – a wood cutout of Texas – and a Zuni Indian good luck fetish inside. The Zuni fetishes are small, carved animals such as a frog or badger. “I have three or four woods that I like,” he said. “My favorite is probably the Southeast Asian rosewood but I also like the Koa from Hawaii.” The sides and bottoms of his guitars can be made with the exotic woods but the tops are always made from spruce, cedar or redwood. “Spruce can be made very, very thin. The thinner and lighter the top the better the sound.”
