2012 Martin OM-18 Authentic 1933, Mahogany/Adirondack Spruce
Martin’s Authentic line are powerhouse workhorse builds, every single one. This OM-18 Authentic 1933 (from 2012) is no exception! Mahogany back and sides with Adirondack Spruce on top, itself scalloped braced with Adirondack in the Authentic fashion, plus a barrel-and-heel neck profile that feels oh so familiar in hand. Loud and lively! This Authentic comes to us from 2012, serial number 1740537, and is one of the last non-VTS versions of this Authentic 1933 model, setting this one apart from the crowd. This OM has a lot of energy under the hood, and really responds well to both fingertips and flatpicks. It weighs in at a featherweight 3lbs 9oz, too, so there’s no getting tired with this one on your lap. The dark, vintage shade top finish rounds out the image perfectly, and this beauty is in like new condition, itching for more tunes.

The Martin M-36 fits that big box, small feel niche you’ve been looking for. 16 inches across the lower bout like a jumbo or grand auditorium, but slim sides like an OM, the M-36 pumps out proper bass response without compromising the mids and trebles (here on display with great clarity and presence). Three-piece back of Indian Rosewood pairs up with Sitka Spruce on top and a white trim package, and this beauty is like new from 2015 and ready for a new home!

This is the kind of guitar to write home to the folks about. We are floored by this little 00-18 from 1928. Just floored. The voice is immense, colorful, powerful, and the trebles have incredibly beautiful overtones that ring out and out. Fantastic for fingerstyle work, and it holds up handsomely under a pick too. This Martin 00-18 has been cared for over the years and comes to us with a clean bill of health and ready for more action. The Mahogany body has a few cracks, which have been stabilized. Bridge plate has been replaced, and a thin patch has been installed over the area to reinforce it—and the Adirondack Spruce top rings out loud and clear and true. This 00 very much punches about its weight. The setup is silky smooth to boot; the bar frets here are some of the easiest-playing bars we’ve handled in quite some time. In hand, this gem from 1928 almost floats away: it weights 2.75lbs. That’s it. These tonewoods have been torrefied the old school way! Super lightweight, super resonant. We urge you to snag this one before we decide to keep it for ourselves.

This is simply one of the most sought after Signature models that Martin has released to date: the Martin D-45SS Stephen Stills Signature Edition. Conceived in 1998 as a run of 91, each D-45SS boasts Alpine Spruce over premium Brazilian Rosewood, Stills’ signature inlaid at the fretboard extension, and the southern star inlaid at the pickguard. Elsewhere, this model is based on Stills’ 1939 Martin D-45, so here represented with the hexagonal 45 treatment along the fretboard, through-saddle belly bridge, and gold Waverly tuners. Here is number 19 of that ultra rare 91, single owner and well cared for. Available now, but it won’t linger.

Prewar sweetie on the scene! 1943, folks, a 1943 Martin 000-28 available at your local Dream. This grade of old school Brazilian Rosewood is the real deal, as is the Adirondack Spruce top. The voice is precise and wide open at the same time, equally at home with flatpicking and fingers. The neck has some gorgeous finish checks that feel intimate and familiar in hand. Setup is dialed right in to boot. This is one we keep finding ourselves losing track of time with. It’s been cared for over the years, and all relevant repairs have been performed to keep it in peak playing condition.

Beautiful from tuner to tail, an easy player with an easy projection and happy played soft or strong, a real gem. We’re such a fan of this 2002 D-45V. The 45-style Abalone treatment is executed fantastically here, with Grained Ivoroid bindings to offset the Indian Rosewood body and Sitka Spruce top, and snowflakes & diamonds along the fretboard. C.F. Martin in Abalone at the headstock. The Spruce top is forward shifted and scallop braced for added bass punch, and the neck is carved with a Modified V to match the prewar classics with a beefier in-hand feel.

Like new! And ready to mingle. Here we’ve landed a 2013 Martin D12-28 that’s so minty it’s still got the plastic cover on the pickguard—and it sounds fabulous. Indian Rosewood back and sides with Sitka Spruce on top and a short scale neck to warm it up a bit makes for a voice that’s enveloping and energetic. The neck is finished in satin for a silk-smooth play feel (and the setup is slinky and low to boot). White body bindings set off the creamy Spruce top and chocolate-brown Rosewood sides, with MOP position markers along the fretboard.

This is what it’s all about. We are so excited to have this prewar powerhouse in the shop! Martin 000-18 #31424 was built in 1927, featuring a long scale fretboard on 12-fret neck, slotted headstock, and of course Adirondack-over-Mahogany body. The original finish had deteriorated, so the guitar has been refinished with French Polish for maximum resonance, and as such has only a few minor marks—marvelous for a guitar of this age. The voice is exquisite. Open and lush, with a balanced projection that showcases individual notes as well as big chords. The bar frets have been recently dressed to play as smooth as possible, and we love the added width of the 1 7/8” nut for easy lefthand work. Our repair folks also reset the neck, so this 1927 000-18 is set up for another generation of music!

We’ve had a blast every time we’ve seen one of Eric Clapton’s Crossroads Signature Martins—they really pull out all the stops. This particular beauty from 2013 is part of the Madagascar Rosewood 45 series, second only to the rare BRW 000-45EC. Madagascar can match Brazilian for glassy definition and resonance, and this set doesn’t disappoint in the least. Adirondack Spruce on top (a nod to the holy grail 000; ditto for hide glue construction), snowflake inlays, and custom Clapton crossroads symbol flanking the saddle on either bridge wing. This one’s in great shape, and currently has a pickup jack installed (the previous pickup was removed), and comes wrapped in the custom Crossroads TKL case.

Here’s a fun one! A 2018 000-18 from the Martin Custom Shop in Mahogany and Spruce—generous lower bout, but relatively slim sides for added projection and power in an easy-playing package. This one responds quite well to a pick (and fingers, if we’re being honest; it’s very well rounded), and weighing in right at four pounds this 0000 feels comfortable and agile in your hands. The body shape and dry voice make for a killer instrument for a wide range of applications: this Martin Custom Shop is just one of those solid, all-around great guitars.

We landed a treasure trove of vintage pieces which our repair folks have lovingly restored to peak playing condition—this Martin 0-17 was built in 1937 and is still ready for action! The 0 size is petite, but by no means quiet (the intervening decades having done some work on opening up the all-Mahogany body), and the setup is that of a brand new guitar.
Coming to you at a trim 3lbs 11oz, this 0-17 is a featherweight player that’s easy on the hands, and the finish on the neck is worn through on the cheeks for that old-pair-of-jeans feel. It also has a Barcus Berry bridge plate pickup that sounds great plugged straight in to an acoustic amp.Other keywords: c.f. martin, martin guitar, 24.9, vintage, pre-war, prewar, all mahogany, #66703

Now here’s a guitar to fill the room. What a joy it is to this 1968 D12-35; it’s got enough under the hood for two guitars. 1968 was one of the last years for Brazilian Rosewood on stock instruments from Martin, and this 35-style Dread with three-piece back boasts exceptionally straight grain for the times (they’d burned through most of their best quarter-sawn stock by the late 60s, which is why you see so many Martins from this period with slab-cut BRW). Sitka Spruce on top with a 12-fret neck join and a warm amber patina to the Nitro finish. The lions share of vintage 12-strings suffer from bowed necks and sky high action, but this ’68 D12-35 is easy peasy with a slinky setup. We just can’t decide if we like it more for the lush projection for strumming, or the whoomph! and presence of individual notes when fingerpicking or flatpicking.

This is a beautifully preserved 1937 000-18 that’s very, very ready for more action. Our repair folks have gone over it from tuner to tail to confirm that, and given this Martin a clean bill of health. Adirondack Spruce over Mahogany, lightweight at 3lbs 13oz, with a few repairs over the years to keep it in tip top shape. We’ve got both the original tuners and the original case, and can ship this beauty either the originals or with the Waverly Relic’d tuners (currently installed) and an aftermarket case. The voice is crisp and woody with even decay across the strings. It fingerpicks very well, and takes to a flatpick pretty naturally to boot. We love the cleanness and clarity; the balance across the registers really makes for well-defined chords. This prewar beauty is a classic 000-18 all the way.
