2001 Martin 000-28 Custom, Brazilian Rosewood & Adirondack Spruce
Consecutive Martins with matching Brazilian Rosewood and Adirondack? Yes, please! This 2001 000-28 Custom is #803861, built just after D-42 Custom #803860 with the exact same woods, which we sold a few years back. The 000 has a smooth balance and warm bass response that projects very quickly out from the guitar. Versatile for just about whatever you can come up with, this 000-28 feels intimate and familiar in your hands, and the relatively light build weight (4lb 5oz) makes for an easy player. The Brazilian Rosewood is gorgeous, light and tan, setting it apart from much of the Brazilian stock. 42-style Abalone snowflakes on the bridge and fretboard to match. And it comes delivered in a Cedar Creek tweed case!

This Martin Custom 00 sunburst in Brazilian Rosewood and Red Spruce is going to be hard to beat for blues and ragtime music; it’s got that great bark and warmth which is just right for those styles of music. The frequencies are all even and controlled across the board on this guitar, so if you are a fingerpicker you’re in for a treat! Up and down the neck, tone and playability are even and consistent, just the way we like it. This Martin strays from the pack slightly with is beautiful sunburst, the kind of dark burst we would normally associate with a Gibson-style instrument, but boy does it look good on this Martin!
With more thundering bass under the hood than you’d believe possible, this 00 is perfectly set up with a smooth neck profile, effortless action, and slightly wider nut to lend a little more room to those complex left-hand positions.

We’ve got a special treat in hand today. This 000-45 was built in 1983 to commemorate the Martin name which had by then thrived for 150 years. They only built 150 (of course), and this one comes in at #147! Brick-red Indian Rosewood back and sides paired with an Alpine Spruce top that’s aged nicely to a warm, amber finish. Slim neck with a 1 11/16” nut and a slick setup, this 150th Anniversary is an exquisite fingerstyle instrument that’s got enough headroom and power to handle strumming and flatpicking as well.

Prewar magic: 1936 Martin 000-18 shade top. Restored by T.J. Thompson, fresh setup by our own repair staff, and decade upon decade of sweet, sweet tone. This 000-18 is incredible; 3lbs 11oz, shade top intact, and playing like butter. We consider ourselves exceedingly fortunate to be able to offer this Martin up to you. In 1936, this is one of only four of the several hundred 000-18 models to be built with a shade top. Adirondack Spruce top, Mahogany back and sides with standard 18-style trim and Waverly tuners.

Loud as life itself. We are head over heels with this M-42 David Bromberg Signature from Martin! The M body with its 16 inch lower bout has added power and projection, while still playing as easily and intimately as an OM—the best of both worlds, in our opinion. Indian Rosewood is paired up with Italian Alpine Spruce and a sparkling 42-style appointment package, plus a block lettered C.F. Martin headstock logo nodding to Bromberg’s original Martin archtop conversion from the 1960s. This is number 68 of 83, has been well maintained since 2005, and is ready for plenty more action!

You don’t mess around with Jim, indeed. This 2000 Martin D-21JCB Jim Croce is a fundamental powerhouse Dread, dressed up in Brazilian Rosewood and Sitka Spruce with a 1973 dime inlaid at the third fret. The neck is a slim number with a 1 11/16” nut, plays fantastically, and is an easy fit for the left hand. Nickel Grover tuners up top, and black bindings to pair up with matching bridge pins and pickguard. This beauty is a natural choice for the singer-songwriter, but is more than up to the task of keeping up with the Bluegrass session to boot!

Martin folks did it so well back in the day, Martin folks these days are taking note (for note) with their Authentic line. This handsome OM-28 Authentic 1931 is a charmer with Madagascar Rosewood back and sides, Adirondack Spruce, and otherwise matching specs to Martin’s vintage 1931 OM-28 model. That means hide glue construction, scalloped bracing on top, and Martin’s VTS (Vintage Tone System) for pre-aging the tonewoods for added vintage presence. Over everything Martin also applied their Vintage Gloss finish, which is a thinner and less shiny finish that you’ll find on other contemporary models.
The voice on this 2015 OM-28 Authentic is lively, warm, and responsive. An even decay across the registers makes for clean projection and sustain, and it’s such a versatile fellow for both fingerstyle and flat picking.Other keywords: lutherie, luthier, c.f. martin, martin guitars, orchestra model, 000, fingerpicking, adriondack, wavily, hiscox, reissue

This Martin Custom Shop 000 has something to say. Striking Ziricote back and sides pair sweetly with an Alpine Italian Spruce top for crisp trebles and a well-tempered midrange and bass response; the recipe for a top notch fingerstyle guitar. The 000’s short 24.9” scale, here on a 14-fret frame, gives a touch more sweetness and roundness to the trebles. The Spruce top is trimmed out in Abalone with a 45-style rosette to boot, and at the headstock the Custom Shop installed a gorgeous alternate torch in Abalone, nestled between gold Schaller GrandTune tuners. Pyramid bridge in Ebony, and pale Maple bindings round out the image of this 2019 Martin Custom Shop 000 as a beautiful instrument for both the eyes and the ears.

Superstar John Mayer, working with Martin Guitars, makes for a unique instrument. And that’s an understatement. With this limited run of 25 00-45SC Stagecoach Editions in 2011, Mayer and Martin paired brick-red Cocobolo Rosewood back and side sets with Adirondack Spruce tops in a 12-fret 00 package, and trimmed everything out with select Blue Paua Abalone. Pay attention to the rings of the rosette—you’ll see they continue across the fretboard extension as well. Down the center of the headstock is a 1902 alternate torch in Abalone. Waverly tuners flank the torch on either side in squared slots.

The folks at Martin Guitars have brought another historic gem back to new life with a limited run of recreated Martins from the turn of the twentieth century. This is their 00-45S 1902 model, built in 2003 to match exactly the specs of one of four 45-style prototypes built in 1902 (the 45 didn’t come onto the scene until 1904).
Here we have the hallmarks of modern 45-style appointments, but in addition the original prototype featured an integrated pickguard between the bridge and soundhole in the style of Martin mandolin pickguards of the time. All this over Brazilian Rosewood and Adirondack Spruce. This beauty is number five of an exclusive 100. Exquisitely lively, this 00-45S has a quick response and surprising depths to the bass and middle registers. This one comes with the original coffin hardshell case, and we have a Martin TKL case as well that can be shipped separately at additional cost.

Crackle and pop, we’ve got plenty here. This 2017 D-18 from the Martin Custom Shop is practically new, but already loud, proud, and ready for action. Sinker Mahogany back and sides paired with an Adirondack Spruce top and Tortoise Style bindings, this D-18 has lots of dry crunch in the mids, and a quick decay keeps the voice crisp and notes from mumbling into each other; excellent for the flatpicker who needs a dry, defined tone. A satin neck makes for silky left hand work (the easy setup helps too), and the whole package comes wrapped up in a GWW hardshell case.

The Martin this D-45 is modeled after needs no introduction: Gene Autry’s 1933 D-45, the very first D-45 ever ordered. True to those specs, this 1994 replica features a chunky, 12-fret neck, slotted headstock with Waverly tuners, and Gene Autry’s signature scrawled in MOP across the fretboard. Brazilian Rosewood back and sides are paired with a tight-grained Sitka Spruce top, with 45-style Abalone trim everywhere. This particular D-45 Gene Autry is number 17 (of 66), and is in remarkable condition, especially considering it’s almost 25 years old! We love the feel of the vintage, chunky neck, and coupled with the 12 fret body join this Martin D-45 is a great choice for fingerpicking, flatpicking, frankly anything.

Warm, balanced, and sweetly responsive. We’ve landed a lovely Martin D-35 from 1969 with three-piece Brazilian Rosewood back in & sides, Sitka Spruce top, and an opened up voice to boot! With the right kind of mojo, this beauty feels easy and familiar in your hands, and plays particularly smoothly for a Dreadnought. Our resident flatpick phenom Allen Shadd liked the warm, mellow tone, and we have to agree. It sets this one apart from the typical Bluegrass cannon. It keeps up fine for flatpicking fiddle tunes, but it remains clean and responsive when played softly and for other genres as well. A dynamic D-35 with 50 years under its belt and ready for action.

Clear and clean, with Brazilian Rosewood back and Sitka Spruce top, our 1990 Martin D-40 BLE is the flatpicking machine of choice. Designed in collaboration with Martin and Mike Longworth, the D-40 BLE features white bindings, Abalone trim, the C.F. Martin headstock logo (also in Abalone), and snowflakes on the bridge wings and fretboard. These guitars were a limited run of 50 guitars (you’re looking at number 39 now), and we’ve got the original Mark Leaf flight case that it shipped out in from the Martin factory to boot. In 2016 Martin retopped this beauty and gave it a clean bill of health, so our D-40 BLE is more than ready to get back in the saddle.
