An exceptional guitar. We just took in a 1974 Ramirez 2A in Brazilian Rosewood and Cedar with some powerful provenance. Played and initialed by the venerable master, Christopher Parkening, this Ramirez has been extensively played in and has an exquisitely opened up and responsive voice. Power and sustain with the 664mm scale; the proprietary Ramirez lacquer finish is in great shape; and this 2A comes with the original case. Here we have a fantastic Flamenco guitar from the legendary Ramirez guitars. Built from the classic Flamenco combination of Cypress and Spruce, this little baby is as light as a feather. Mariano Tezanos was the particular builder in the Ramirez shop responsible for the construction of this guitar. Tezanos was famed as being one of the best builder to ever work for Ramirez, and none other than Andre Segovia himself prized Tezanos for his work. The voice on this guitar is quick and powerful, with a great attack and airiness to the tone, a perfect Flamenco sound. Although it has sustained some damage in its life, it has been expertly repaired, and we feel that it only adds character and tone to this wonderful little Flamenco.
From the time when Jose Ramirez I installed his workshop in Concepcion Jeronima no. 2 at the end of the ninteeenth century, the shop has sold Ramirez guitars through four generations.Jose Ramirez III changed the situation when, due to the increasing demand for guitars at the beginning of the 1960s, he moved his workshop to General Margallo street. There he taught new artisans, leaving the establishment in Concepcion Jeronima solely as shop open to the public. At the beginning of the seventies he opened a larger shop in front of the old, in the number 5 of Concepcion Jeronima. The little shop remained closed until the end of the eighties, when Jose Ramirez IV and his sister Amalia decided to restore and reopen it.In 1995 they were obliged to abandon the venerable establishment due to the impossibility of renewing the lease. They bought a new space in the same area where, in addition to acquiring a guitar, one can view part of the Ramirez family’s guitar collection, including examples not only made by the Ramirez dynasty, but also, amongst others, Antonio de Torres, Santos Hermandez, Dionisio Guerra, Francisco Simplicio, and Manuel Munoa.
