2015 Abraham Wechter Florentine, Mahogany/Spruce
Quick, lively, and raring to go! Here we’ve landed a gorgeous Florentine model from the one and only Abraham Wechter, boasting a slim build weight just over four pounds with Mahogany back and sides and Spruce top, 25.4″ scale and 1 3/4″ nut, and light Maple appointments throughout. The flavor of Mahogany we’re working with here is incredibly light and amber in color–almost like Satinwood at first glance–really makes this one stand out. The voice has great balance across the registers, with energetic trebles that lend an immediacy to the voice that’s honestly great for both fingers and picks.

Dynamic is the name of the game when it comes to our Wechter Florentine crossover. Among Abraham Wechter’s myriad designs over the years, his Florentine is one of the most well-known, in particular for the ease with which these guitars can be played in a wide range of settings. The spacious body cavity lends extra projection and clarity, while the shallow C profile neck feels much more like your favorite steel string than a classical. The 25.5 inch scale shines for fingerstyle compositions, but has enough tension for use with a pick; the Barbera Soloist pickup amplified both modes handsomely.
Quilted Maple make up the back and sides, Red Cedar the top, and the rosette partitions up the natural Cedar grain with sparkling Abalone that has an extra three-dimenionsionality that quickly catches the eye. Of course this model comes with a Florentine Cutaway, and this crossover guitar also features a strap button so you can easily play while standing—no more relegated to squeaky chairs on stage! In incredible condition, this Wechter Florentine was built between 2005 and 2008 and has opened up sweetly, and combines the punchy drive of its Maple with Cedar warmth and overtones for a well-balanced voice, both acoustic and amplified.
