We’ve been waiting with bated breath for this one to arrive! Here’s the latest and greatest from our newest Canadian builder, GR Bear of Vancouver, British Columbia. Bear’s larger SJ-C body conveys power and growl, and the unique Gidgee back and sides bring out a distinct woody timbre to the bass register; Lutz Spruce on top gives the trebles a bright, chimey flavor that really cuts through the mix. The fit and finish is flawless from tuner to tail, with a UV-cured Polyester finish for the body and neck, and Royal-Lac shellac top for maximum resonance.
The neck is satin to the touch, and a delight in hand. This one takes to both flatpicks and fingerstyle equally well, and we can’t wait to hear what it sounds like after it’s got some hours under its belt! Considering how much tone we’re getting right out of the gate today. GR Bear, you can build us a guitar any day. This preowned 2019 OM is a phenomenal instrument with a surgically precise voice and elegant aesthetics. Highly figured Fiddleback Tasmanian Blackwood are paired with a salvaged Red Cedar top for clarity balanced with warmth; dialed in for the fingerstylist. The Cedar top here has a personal provenance from the builder himself: “ I went on a road trip to Haida Gwaii last year with my wife and son. One day my son and I were waking down the beach and I came across this massive cedar stump that had beautiful tight even grain and I thought I want some of that for tops! I asked the locals about salvaging some of the log and got permission from an indigenous Haida man to harvest what I could from the log. I rented a chain saw and loaded up our tiny Toyota Corolla for the 24hr drive home to Vancouver!”
A striking red Padauk bridge sets off the color of the top and Tasmanian Blackwood rosette. We love the stepped headstock and understated visual style. A soundport and hemispherical EVO fret ends rounds out the image. Bear utilizes a carbon falcate bracing scheme for the top, and the result is precision and power for days.

This 2011 Paul Beard E Model is a custom build that we commissioned for one of our long time clients a few years back. It is now returning to our flock for a time and we couldn’t be happier to see it here again. It has been treated extremely well since we last hosted it and remains is in true Mint condition.

With the Odyssey, Paul Beard has once again raised the bar for what a resonator can sound like. This is one of the first few available anywhere in the country — the first run was snatched up by Vince Gill and other Nashville A-listers.
We custom ordered this amazing version of Paul Beard newest model, The Odyssey. The Camphor Burl back and sides have to be seen to be believed; the natural patterns in the wood are stunning and deep and hypnotically kaleidoscopic, but looks are only a part of it. The sound of these guitars has been described as “huge.” This fine instrument has great bass content, rich, full satisfying volume, and just the right amount of bluesy snarl thanks to the “Legend Tone” polished cone and oval soundhole. The playability of this resonator is perfect in every way. A Fishman Spider pickup and Aura imaging pedal are also included.

One look, and you’re intrigued. One note, and you’re hooked. This powerhouse 2015 3GMS from Allan Beardsell‘s shop is here to dazzle the eyes and humble the ears. Let’s start with the basics. You know, like the double soundports which pour sweet active bass notes right into your ear. Or the oval soundhole and its spiderweb-like rosette, or the arm and back bevels which meld smoothly with the bindings. And let’s not forget the unique three-piece Selmer-style cutaway or the multi-scale Ebony multiscale fingerboard with 27″ scale length on the low E and 25″ on the high E. As if all that wasn’t enough, the back and sides are made of a beautiful set of Leopardwood, and the top is lightly figured Lutz Spruce. When these woods (and that exhaustive list of options) combine, the effect is overwhelming: this is a guitar with an electrified, energetic voice that pops, sizzles, and screams. The low-end, in particular, is very crisp and loud, thanks to the multiscale arrangement, and the middle and upper registers have heaps of headroom. Overall, the 3GMS/25/27 exhibits the kind of agility and responsiveness, perfect for fast, smooth playing, that one would expect from a much smaller build.

And now for something completely different. Al Beardsell may have never built the same guitar twice; each time we get one in the shop there’s something different and exciting going on under the hood or visually. This 2012 3D-V is a great example. Arm bevel, oval soundhole, soundport, asymmetrical neck carve, art deco rosette, flattened cutaway. Then there’s the voice. A fascinating mixture of pop and power, plus a smoothness and depth that’s quite its own thing. Beardsell’s built a fantastic fingerstyle guitar here, one which soaks up DADGAD like it was born in the tuning. Dramatically figured Macassar Ebony back and sides pair with Lutz Spruce on top, Ebony bindings throughout.

More fun than we can shake a pick at! This killer 2017 hollowbody 7G-3PU from Al Beardsell is a livewire originally owned by Paul Heumiller himself, who snagged it after seeing it at a show with Al. Mahogany body with a Maple top that boasts striping figure and a cool, mineralized-esque color, and Al whipped up some killer Rickenbacker-style toaster pickups and a trem bridge to round it all out. Gotoh tuners, Cocobolo Rosewood fingerboard, and the volume knob has a blower switch to instantly kick on all pickups, regardless of what position the selector is in—great for when you need a big, juicy blast. Al’s neck carve shaves a bit extra off the bass side to better mate your left hand to the neck, and the result is an effortless playing experience.

Dynamic as the day is long. We’re talking about a Beardsell flattop guitar that’s equally at home for celtic DADGAD fingerstyle one afternoon, chunky gypsy jazz that evening, and strummed folk songs the next morning. All the while with an oil-slick quick assymetrical neck, dual soundports for music straight to you ear and an extra dose of breathiness, and some gorgeous Quilted Maple and Adirondack Spruce to admire between sets
Beardsell voiced this 2004 4G for excellent balance, and brother did he succeed. The trebles cut well in the mix, sandwiching some punchy mids with a transparent bass response that remains crisp and responsive all the way into C tunings. This 4G has the makings to be a fine studio guitar, but it also makes for a great one for gigs, especially with the L.R. Baggs Lyric pickup.

Here we have a Beardsell Style 2 in Cherry and Spruce. This Style 2 has a big, raucous voice that is unique and fully engrossing, reminiscent of a great Selmer guitar. This one excels at jazz and single line soloing in a larger setting, but has the versatility to emote even intricate fingerstyle in more intimate surroundings. The soundport design puts you right inside the voice of this guitar, enabling you to hear every nuance of the sound before it ever makes its way to the crowd. And though this one might have a 12 fret neck joint, the heel transition and cutaway ensure that you can solo up as high as you like with ease. If you love a good Jazz box but want more substance to your sound, look no farther.

Allan Beardsell is one of the true innovators of guitar making and his instruments are some of our very favorites. This Beardsell 2G certainly does not look traditional and that’s because it is not. The Beardsell design employs sides stiffened with a layer of Birdseye Maple for a drum like power and projection. A radially braced back and perfectly voiced top join forces to maximize the use of energy. Don’t let the small soundhole fool you, there are two more on the side that let all of the sound out. The voice is perfect for both fingerstyle and chord work. One of most loved features is his asymmetrical neck profile. The bass side is shaved down a bit compared to the treble side, for a great feel. The Indian Rosewood and Sitka spruce are aged and played to full expression. An Armrest Bevel and a McIntyre Feather pickup make this a great choice for a gigging musician.
