2005 Threet Model E Madagascar/Sitka
Judy Threet has been building her unique instruments since the early 90’s. It’s easy to get lost in the beauty of her instruments, from the stunning inlay to the obvious attention to the smallest detail. But don’t stop there — because there is a whole world of vivid tone to explore. They sound great, they look great and we’re proud to have this wonderful example of her work to offer crafted from Madagascar Rosewood and Sitka Spruce. This one is complete with a Fishman pickup system as well.

A delightful first for us here at Dream Guitars. This RMAF (Rocky Mountain Archtop Festival) themed archtop from the workshop of Ben Kahler of Tikatoo Guitars is as wonderful and sonorously exciting as it is visually vibrant.Figured Birch for the back and sides along with Sitka Spruce for the top. Lots of incredible innovations here, in lieu of f holes we have sound ports on the upper bout that create an almost three dimensional saturation affect for the player, and a powerful sonic experience for the listener. Also interesting is Kahler’s use of Roasted Black Locust for the fingerboard and various other appointments. The rest of what makes this guitar unique quite frankly speaks for itself. We suspect that you’ll be hearing a lot more about this incredibly talented up and coming luthier!

This is the Dream Series that started it all! In 2007 Bill and Paul collaborated on spec’ing out #1 with African Blackwood back and sides and Cedar on top, the result of which is a voice equal parts chocolate rich and crystalline clarity. Such a powerhouse combination, and in Bill’s Crescendo body to make the playing experience oh so comfortable to boot. Opal inlays at the first fret and at the tail, plus Snakewood appointments and a Brazilian Rosewood bridge, combine with Bill’s sense of curve for a gorgeous viewing experience (on those rare moments you won’t be playing this one). Setup is excellent for fingerstyle play, and it loves tuning down to D and even C territory. There’s even a K&K Pure Mini pickup to carry you onto the stage! And a Calton case for safe keeping.
This beauty has opened up fantastically in the intervening years, and we’re so grateful to visit with it again. 2007 Tippin Dream Series #1! Get it while you can. Here’s an additional demo from the past! https://youtu.be/1GhUSarnUCk

We here at Dream Guitars have been long time friends and fans of Bill Tippin. His guitars certainly helped inspire our niche of the guitar business back in the day, and if you have ever played one of bill’s guitars you know why. This 2005 Staccato in Brazilian Rosewood and Adirondack Spruce has all the warmth and grand tone of an OM but in a much smaller, easier-to-hold package. The voice of this little gem truly is special, full and clear with a focus on uniformity of tone from string to string. Take a look at that Brazilian Rosewood; you can easily get lost in the grain patterns. To top it all off, the Staccato comes with a custom Calton flight case, the perfect protection for the perfect fingerstyle guitar.

Bill Tippin’s Forte model for the win. This flattop is a feat of lutherie from one of our all-time favorite builders, and Bill does not disappoint. The Tree Mahogany back and sides plus Alpine Moonspruce top makes for a unique blend of snappy bass and bell-like trebles. A natural choice for fingerstyle, and with the larger Forte body style this one is also right at home with a flatpick as well. One of those rare guitars that makes everything sound just a bit better. Creature comforts include an arm bevel, contoured heel carve, soundport, and Scheller tuners. Aesthetic dressings include the wildly figured Tree Mahogany, African Blackwood bindings and engraft, and tasteful Abalone inlays throughout.

This guitar is a smooth operator. From famed luthier Bill Tippin, this 2005 Bravado in German Spruce and Brazilian Rosewood boasts the pianistic articulation that Tippin guitars are known for, coupled with a loud presence when played with aggressive attack. The Bravado still projects well with a lighter fingerstyle approach, thanks to a masterfully proportioned German Spruce top. As ever, Bill has set this guitar up perfectly, whether your are fingerpicking or strumming the action feels smooth and buttery.

Here we have a 2006 Tippin DST in Sitka Spruce and Brazilian Rosewood. This is a rare body size for Bill, usually we see smaller fingerstyle sized guitars from him. Seeing a bold slope shoulder dread come out of the Tippin workshop is a real treat. This is the most sophisticated slope shoulder dread you are ever likely to see, the appointments are nothing short of perfection and exactly what we expect from Bill. Tonally this is one of the loudest Tippins we have had in the shop in some time, and that’s while excelling at both fingerpicking and flatpicking. The voice is lush and articulate with a controlled presence on every string.

Alive, powerful, and boasting a meaty midrange. This Crescendo from Bill Tippin has opened up oh so much since 2006. Stiff Carpathian Spruce makes for a treble response that immediately cuts through the mix, and paired with Brazilian Rosewood back and sides the voice has a velvety quality which bring the word heft to mind. Gorgeous tonewoods here, and Bill further upgraded this build with BRW bridge and Flame Koa bindings, Waverly tuners, and a tasteful pointed inlay at the headstock terminus of the fretboard. A K&K Mini pickup carries all of that right onto the stage, and a previous owner installed a strap button at the heel so you can strap right up into it as well. Bill’s Crescendo is something of a souped up OM, packing more power and push. Ready for a guitar experience to get your heart racing?

Bill Tippin has been one of our favorite builders for just about as long as we’ve been in business. Why? A gorgeous aesthetic married with expressive, articulate voices that draw player and listener in every time. This 2017 Forte model is one to lose track of time with. Handles flatpicking with aplomb, but also sensitive enough for a light fingerstyle touch; at home in altered tunings without losing oomph and string energy. It does it all, and it does so exceedingly well. Then there are the upgrades: Brazilian Rosewood and Adirondack Spruce, African Blackwood bindings and bridge plus rosette, arm bevel, subtle soundport. The fretboard is adorned with a spray of stone and pearl inlays, pairing up with delicate, slender pearl purflings at the body and headstock.

Bill Tippin repeatedly ranks in our top ten. Why? Consistency. Consistency in build quality, and consistency in tone: his guitars are fantastically balanced across the registers. This 2017 Forte is such a powerhouse! The Forte model is a slightly enlarged Crescendo, here upgraded with Brazilian Rosewood and Adirondack Spruce with Koa bindings and a soundport plus arm bevel. The Adi top really opens up after you play for a few minutes, lending a lively and organic quality to the player experience; you’ll remark that this particular guitar is quite wide awake. As mentioned, the balance is splendid across the range, and Bill’s managed to inject the same amount of power and presence into each note, making this an exquisite fingerstyle instrument. Plus it comes wrapped up safe and sound in a Calton case on those rare occasions when you aren’t playing it.

In 2007, this Tippin Pink Lady was inspired when we happened upon some rare Pink Ivory wood. This wood grows in southeast Africa and is rarely found in sizes suitable for guitars. Its beautiful vibrant color and amazing tone set us on a course to build this unique guitar. The body shape is Bill’s Staccato, which is an updated 0 sized small guitar. We worked closely with Bill Tippin on the tonal and cosmetic details. We chose premium Italian Spruce for the top, a Flame Maple neck and Bois de Rose for the fingerboard and matching bridge. Bill Tippin and Glenn Nichols created a stunning headstock hibiscus inlay with carefully selected materials to bring it to life. They even included the water droplets that formed while initially photographing the flower, and there is one corresponding pedal on the back of the guitar.
The fine folks at Tippin Guitars didn’t stop there. They added very fine Mother of Pearl sparkle trim bordering the fingerboard and the entire top. It is very subtle and beautiful with fine Bloodwood lines framing. The backstrip echoes this treatment and the entire guitar is bound in Flame Maple. The tuners are adorned with Ivoroid buttons. Our favorite feature is the gem quality Opal necklace rosette. But what we and Bill and are most proud of is the tone of this guitar. It is simply bewitching, complete in every register with fullness and wonderful sparkle.
Now the guitar has come back to us, and we’re more than excited to offer it to you!

The only thing better than a Tippin? A Tippin that’s had a few years and a few thousand notes under its belt—this 2003 000T12-C is a petite-proportioned powerhouse. Brazilian Rosewood back and sides here to add malty warmth and overtones to the voice (with some lovely figure to boot), and an Alpine Spruce top for smooth projection and balance. Bill’s 000 is a natural fingerstyle guitar, here with a 25.4” scale + 12-fret neck (and cutaway) for a sweet mixture of power and warmth. Long scale meant we were able to tune down to DADGAD and keep the power and clarity, and we honestly didn’t want to put this one down afterwards. Slotted headstock with gold Waverly tuners, V neck; understated aesthetics with Abalone side dots and Ivoroid bindings. This Tippin has been well cared for and is in stellar condition.
