Bourgeois introduced this SS, Short Scale, model in 2007 as this spec has been their most requested model recently. It offers all the warm, sweet, full tone and relaxed playability you’d expect from a vintage short scale instrument but with the balance and note to note clarity found on all Bourgeois guitars. This one is like new with a gorgeous Sunburst and contrasting Ivoroid Bindings and buttons for a dressed-up vintage vibe. The tone is all there, Dana’s usual big, round bass and soaring trebles. The Mahogany and Red Spruce dreadnought is a sound we all know and love. This combination has been used on powerhouse guitars since the introduction of the famous D-18. Dana Bourgeois has been adding his special voicing to Adirondack tops for years and knows how to pull out the tone. This Georgia Dreadnought has a very even grain on the top all the way across. It’s been played just enough to be coming alive and it’s a strong one.

This is a replica of Bryan Sutton’s “Banjo Killer” and is one of 30 that are signed by Bryan Sutton on the label. Dana Bourgeois says: “ The BK Slope D has a deep, broad tone. Through wood selection and voicing, we push it in the direction of a bigger bottom end, a “lush” top end, and greater volume, similar to the characteristics of Bryan’s original BK. When I first started making slope shouldered Dreadnoughts, I went for something as different as possible from the balanced and focused sound of my standard Dreadnought. The Banjo Killer gets me back to that original idea.” We couldn’t agree more, in fact Bryon Sutton played this very guitar at our shop a few weeks back and it sounded amazing.

This may be one of the most beautiful all koa guitars we’ve ever seen. The quality of this Koa is not to be understated, it’s the best, the kind that is getting very hard to find these days. We’ve always loved Dana’s JOMC design, it offers balance and power for the player who needs both. Dana is a master luthier that really knows how to work with Koa and this one has a gorgeous voice that is full and rich and very responsive. Close your eyes and you’d swear it was a premium Spruce top. The appointments are spectacular: a pyramid bridge, abalone top trim, bound and bordered fingerboard and lovely fretboard inlays. This is a rare and special Bourgeois in every way.

This is the only all Koa Martin Simpson model we’ve ever see. This rare beauty features premium grade, highly figured Koa for the back, sides, top and headstock. This model was a collaboration between fingerstyle master Martin Simpson and luthier Dana Bourgeois. The idea was a fingerstyle 12 fret slope D that would provide power missing in many fingerstyle instruments and also work well for strumming and flatpicking. The addition of a fallaway cutaway that grants full access to the 15th fret and generous string spacing make it an oustanding fingerstyle guitar and one of those rare designs happy to flatpick as well and it hits the mark. This one in all Koa is rare and collectible to boot.

This is the first Redwood Top Bourgeois we’ve seen to date and it’s wonderful. Straight-grained, stiff Redwood make a superb top that is at once rich and powerful. This top is exquisite, no surprise since Dana is regarded as an expert on tonewoods. We love the tortoise style trim, pyramid bridge and ebony buttons, it give an overall rich and classy facade. The voice offers a wide range of tones from punchy and crisp to warm and lush depending on your attach. A versatile and unique Bourgeois guitar for sure.
