2012 Bresnan GS Brazilian/Adirondack
This is a custom made GS by Dan Bresnan. The GS is slightly larger than an OM, offering terrific balance and slightly more bass response. This is a wonderful fingerstyle guitar thanks to it’s tonewoods, Brazilian Rosewood and Adirondack (Red) Spruce. This proven, classic combination makes for a voice with depth, power and articulation. There really is nothing this guitar can’t do, it’s versatile and very inspiring. It is nicely adorned with handmade Alessi Tuners from Italy and a custom Celtic Knot style rosette. The finest woods in the hands of a craftsmen who cares produces something special.

Gorgeous from tuner to tail, this 2017 Kenneth Brogger looks as great as it plays. Madagascar Rosewood back and sides pairs up with an incredibly figured Bearclaw Spruce top for a stunning look, plus Kenneth ties it all together with crow’s feet top trim and Rosewood bindings. The slim build weight of 3lbs 12oz keeps this concert instrument comfortable in-hand, and the neck-to-body weight ratio makes for an easy balance when played on either leg. The voice is smoothly balanced across the registers, with a consistent responsiveness and note definition that we found reliable all along the fretboard. This is a fabulous example of a concert quality build, especially dressed up to look the part.

Laurent Brondel’s The 18 is a powerhouse guitar inspired by, and in some ways surpassing, the classic prewar Martin OM. This one features Honduran Mahogany back and sides, Red Spruce top, and a few modern features like a carbon fiber reinforced neck and EVO frets. A dark shade top finish immediately grabs the eye, but is almost forgotten once you actually put fingers to strings–the voice is quick and lively, goes from 0 to 100 in a flash, and is just downright fun. Looking for a modern take on a prewar classic? Brondel’s The 18 will do nicely!

Livewire! Quick, expressive, energetic, raring to go. Laurent Brondel builds an excellent modern flattop for all your fingerpicking, flatpicking, hybrid picking, strumming needs. This 2020 A2C is a lot of fun, rigged up with Cuban Mahogany body and European Spruce on top, gold EVO frets, a James May pickup system, cutaway, and upgraded Brazilian Rosewood bridge and fingerboard. Part of Brondel’s magic comes from his technique of arching the top, rather than the more typical radiusing approach, which results in added energy and projection on this A2C. The Hog body offers a crisp, woody fundamental that makes notes ring out clearly without turning into mud when played fast or hard.

Such a sweet voice! This 2016 Brondel A-2 has it all: silky setup, smooth response and crisp projection, and an accurate, defined voice that remains so even when we tested it in C9 waters. Upgraded with Madagascar Rosewood back and sides plus German Spruce on top and burl appointments at the headstock, rosette, and heelcap. Laurent lets the quality of the woods speak for themselves with an overall understated appointment aesthetic, crowned by delicate crow’s feet trim along the top and Waverly tuners with black pearl knobs. We found this A-2 was equally at home with fingerstyle play as with flatpicking, offering up clarity and consistency across all the registers. With a 25” scale and 1 3/4” nut plus C-shaped neck, this Brondel plays very easily, indeed. All wrapped up in a custom Hoffee case!

A guitar for the long haul: our 2008 Brondel A2 in Sapele and Spruce. This gorgeous piece of lutherie fits the 14-fret 000 niche to a T with a dynamic response, crisp bass, and an affinity to fingerpicked open tunings just as much as flatpicking fiddle tunes in standard. The C neck features a well-rounded carve, the body is bound in Tortoloid, and Laurent’s fit and finish is so clean it’s almost surgical. We’re very impressed by how consistent the sound is, regardless of what style we played in. The top is very energetic, and has some fierce projection that’s tapped with even a light attack.
It’s rare to find a guitar that’s so versatile, but this 2008 Brondel A2 is just that. A great choice for whatever genre suits your fancy today, and tomorrow.

Laurent Brondel’s “The Essential” A2 pulls off what so many guitarists crave, but so few find: a dynamic instrument that’s equally at home with picks as fingertips. Walnut back and sides paired with a Cedar top and appointed in a minimalist style, this 2010 A2 offers a pleasing mix of crunch in the bass and juicy definition in the trebles. This guitar projects handsomely, and we tested that while covering up the soundport to make sure we weren’t fooled.
In size, Brondel’s A2 is a 14-fret 000, and this one lives up to the dynamic potential of that workhorse size with a lightweight build. We’re quite impressed by just how many musical directions you can take this Brondel.

When a luthier finds an excellent set of Brazilian Rosewood and treats it as lovingly as Laurent Brondel has here, the guitar born from that care and craftsmanship will stand apart, even from other Brazilian Rosewood guitars. The 2012 Brondel A2 we have here is just such an instrument. Make a list of everything you want out of a guitar, and this 000 will probably satisfy every item. There’s sustain for days with that Brazilian Rosewood, and an incredibly complex, deep, warm tone from the body size and Adirondack Spruce top. There’s the perfect setup for flatpicking, and the sensitivity for fingerstyle. There’s an explosive responsiveness and strong, articulate tonal palette across all registers. There’s sweet, balanced overtones in the low-end, and powerful projection. And finally, there’s Brondel’s very well-executed Sunburst Finish. Brondel’s attention to detail is incedible: purfling lines are graceful and handmade, Gabon Ebony bridge is asymmetrically carved, back braces are capped with Brazilian Rosewood. At this price, there really aren’t any other guitars which can compare. This guitar comes with an Ameritage hardshell case.

Here’s a powerhouse OM from EddieLee Brown from 2019 that sings out like a well-defined explosion. The bass response has plenty of bite, but doesn’t overpower the voice, and we love how the crisp attack of the trebles balances everything out. This ELB OM is an excellent candidate for the hybrid player who needs equal responsiveness for fingerstyle as well as flatpicking, and the addition of a soundport in the upper bout keeps all that tone dialed in to the player’s ear so you can keep up.
Madagascar Rosewood back and sides is here paired with AAA German Spruce and a 25.4” scale that feels familiar right out of the gate.
