Sometimes like begets like. Here, the Froggy Bottom team decided to take Mahogany and pair it with yet more Mahogany, and the result is a unique mixture of woody warmth and precise note definition. String energy is quick and lively, extra impressive given the short scale setup at 24 3/4 inches. This beauty comes to us from 2021, is nearly new, but already quite wide awake. The C-12 body is the Froggy Bottom concert model, slender and easy in hand, and this one is dressed up with their Deluxe appointment package for added flair. Abalone fleur-de-lis position markers, plus Abalone at the rosette and backstrip; slotted headstock with nickel Waverly tuners; Curly Maple bindings throughout.

A guitar for every occasion is this 2019 M Deluxe from Froggy Bottom. As gorgeous to the eyes as it is to the ears! And hands, with a silky setup and short, 25 1/8” scale for easy playability. The frog team upgraded this M Deluxe with 5A grade Tiger Fiddleback Rock Maple—truly beautiful stuff—and Sitka Spruce on top, plus their #5 diamond position markers in Abalone to match up with the Froggy logo at the headstock. Classic nickel Waverly tuners tie it all together. The Maple body lends an immediacy and sturdy fundamental, while that Sitka Spruce top adds projection and brightness. All of which is to say, this Froggy Bottom is energetic and responsive for a wide range of settings, be it fingerpicked blues or strummed accompaniment. Upgraded with a German Spruce top over Mahogany body plus cutaway, this Froggy is lightweight and very lively with a quick response. Lovely lion scrimshaw at the heelcap dress it up, plus Curly Maple bindings throughout and nickel Waverly tuners. The neck profile has a rounded, smooth C profile that feels lovely in hand, and with a 1 3/4” nut and 25 1/8” setup it plays oh so handsomely.

In 2020, to celebrate an astounding 50 years in the business, Froggy Bottom Guitars pulled out all of the stops for an exclusive series of guitars, and we’re grateful to visit with this one in the shop today. This R14 Limited is number four of only 18, and is outfitted with FB’s AAAAA pre-CITES Brazilian Rosewood and master grade Adirondack Spruce on top; heelcap of mammoth ivory engraved by Petria Mitchell; #7 style position markers and froggy logo engraved by Glenn Carson; a gorgeous sunburst from Chris Bavaria. The R14 body pulls from the L-00 family with a 14-fret neck and short scale setup. The result, with BRW and Adirondack, is a quick, responsive, and most importantly expressive sound.

A wide open crooner from Vermont’s Froggy Bottom Guitars—built in 2012 and ready for more action! The H14 Deluxe is the Froggy grand concert model, here tricked out with Curly Maple bindings, a heelcap featuring a scrimshaw tall ship, and diamonds & squares along the fretboard. The voice is wide awake and a lovely mix of warmth and power, a natural result from combining Madagascar Rosewood back and sides (premium set, quarter sawn and arrow-straight) with Adirondack Spruce on top. Setup is smooth and glassy to boot, and the addition of a venetian cutaway gives the player easy access to even those dusty top frets.

This Froggy may be nearly new from 2020, but it’s wide eyed and wide awake. What a fun model M Deluxe! Adirondack Spruce over Mahogany makes for quick attack, crunchy bottom end, and a lively projection that’s equally at home with a flatpick or fingernails. The M body fits into the Grand Concert camp of playability and comfort while maintaining a sizable air cavity for volume and depth of tone. Throw in a short scale setup to warm it up a bit and keep those strings easy on the fingers, and you’ve got a Froggy Bottom that’s effortless and incredibly fun. Being their Deluxe appointment package, this M has a lovely Abalone rosette which sets off the sunburst top, paired with an Abalone backstrip and Curly Maple bindings to round it out. Fit and finish are (as always) top notch. We’re excited to have this little(ish) Froggy in the shop! And we’re excited to get it into your hands next.

Blues machine, anyone? The folks at Froggy Bottom Guitars have mastered the art of building a modern small bodied guitar that doesn’t want for volume, or tone. The Froggy Bottom L body is based on an old Martin 1-17 restored by Millard, and the result is a slim little instrument that very easy on the hands and the lap (this one from 2016 weighs in at 3.5lbs!). An excellent choice for fingerpicking blues, rags, or whatever your fingerstyle heart yearns for. Straight Mahogany back and sides with Adirondack Spruce on top, 24.9” scale, and Maple bindings make for a pretty little thing that packs a wallop.

The heelcap features a scrimshawed flower, and this Froggy Bottom is in stellar condition, especially considering it’s fifteen years old!

This beauty is close to new, and it’s ready to get down to the business of making music! The voice is characterized by an even response across the strings and a meaty, dry crunch in the mids. 12 frets to the body and a short scale fretboard make for easy playability to boot.

A bona fide stick of dynamite. We are blown away by this 2016 Froggy Bottom M14 Limited every single time we pick it up. Sapele back and sides, German Spruce top, and an immense voice waiting to be tapped. This Froggy has a quick and lively response; very energetic; slick setup; comfortable dimensions. It sounds like a much larger instrument than its trim curves imply, perfect for flatpicks as easily as fingertips. Michael Millard’s Limited appointment package here comes with Abalone trim, Curly Maple bindings, Abalone fretboard inlays, and Waverly tuners. A Dazzo passive pickup has been installed which works great, and this 2016 Froggy Bottom M14 Limited is in excellent condition.

Michael Millard outdoes himself yet again: this 1995 B12 is a cannon with strings. The classic combination of Brazilian Rosewood and Adirondack Spruce works its usual magic here, giving the voice expansive depth and a fiery projection–but with a 12-fret neck, this B12 has a sweet little warm patch in the mids that balance out the tone. If you’re looking for a Froggy Bottom that is quick and responsive like a teenager on their third cup of coffee in the morning, this Froggy is practically calling your name.
Fingertips or flatpicks, the projection remains impressive, the voice vigorous and expressive. We put this Froggy through the ringer of altered tunings, and it handled each like the champion that it is. Decked out with some gorgeous Abalone across the fretboard, rosette, and back strip, this B12 also has a Mammoth Ivory heelcap scrimshawed with an owl in flight; when you add that to the Flamed Maple bindings, you’re looking at a tall glass of water on a hot summer’s day, if the glass was Adirondack and the water was Brazilian.

A Parlor done right: our 2014 Froggy Bottom P12. We can describe the voice in three words: smooth, velvety, and clear. In spite of its slender dimensions, this P12 has a lot of volume packed away, and it takes minimal effort to access that projection. An easy player for sure. Bastogne Walnut back and sides with some figure, Adirondack Spruce on top (a Froggy Bottom staple), bound in Curly Maple and adorned with an Abalone frog at the slotted headstock.
The overtone levels are just perfect to give extra lushness to feather the trebles without overpowering the voice. This Froggy is four years old, but looks practically brand new; it’s like getting a new Froggy without the new Froggy price tag—a smart choice for a sharp Parlor package.

Livewire! That’s our 2014 Froggy H12 Deluxe in a word. Mahogany and Adirondack Spruce provide a crisp and dry response, the grand concert body pumps out extra volume, and the 12-fret neck warms the trebles until they cut through the mix with a sweet focus.
Curly Maple bindings and heelcap, McIntyre Feather pickup, and Waverly tuners tie everything up in a tasteful bow. Weighing in at a trim 3lbs 14oz, this Froggy is a breeze to play, and it’s been very well taken care of. This is a lot of guitar for the money, and it’s worth every penny.
